Accommodation
Equilibria is situated in the heart of the student environment next to the North-West University. A wide variety of student accommodation options abound in the area. A number of conveniences such as a Virgin Active gym, laundromats, a supermarket, a post office, doctors’ consulting rooms, bookshops and restaurants are within walking distance from most of the flats and student houses.
Students who enrol for the finishing course at Equilibria have a number of accommodation options:
- Option 1: Equilibria’s student houses
- Option 2: Student flats in the area
- Option 3: Student houses
These options are discussed below.
- OPTION 1 - Equilibria’s student houses:
Equilibria’s student houses are exclusively reserved for Equilibria students. These two houses, House Amadeus and House Einstein, are conveniently located next to the school. Most rooms are spacious with built-in cupboards. Some rooms have en suite bathrooms while others share bathroom facilities (at a more affordable rate). Kitchen and social areas are shared but many students prefer to keep their own small fridges in their rooms.
Rental fees: Rental fees vary from R1 800.00 - R1 900.00 per room per month, depending on the size of the room or flat. Cleaning services, water and electricity are included in the rental fees.
Application to stay in Equilibria’s student houses:
Students who would like to stay in one of Equilibria’s student houses are required to apply for admission to the student houses. Admission is subject to a selection process. Students first need to be successfully admitted to Equilibria’s Finishing Course in order to apply for accommodation in the student houses. An Application for Equilibria’s Student Houses will be e-mailed and posted to students who are successfully selected for the gap year course.
Room allocation in Equilibria’s student houses:
Room allocation is done by Equilibria’s management. This process ensures, as far as practically
possible, that:
- Students with the same cultural backgrounds, interests and hobbies live close together
- Male and female students are evenly distributed in the houses
- English and Afrikaans speaking students are grouped together
Room allocation is usually completed by the end of September.

- OPTION 2 – Student flats:
Students, who prefer more privacy, could opt for accommodation in one of the several blocks of flats in the area, many within walking distance from the school. Rental fees for bachelor flats are about R2200 - R2500 and one and two bedroom flats rent for approximately R2500 – R3500. For a list of flats, agents and contact numbers, click on Alternative Accommodation.
- OPTION 3 – Student houses:
Many houses in the area are student communes that are hired by students of the nearby North West University or other academic institutions. Rooms in these houses offer more affordable accommodation options (R1700 – R1800 per month). Contact numbers are available on our Alternative Accommodation list.
