Study programme
Equilibria’s stimulating study programme deals with almost every dimension of adult life. The programme strives to provide tuition in those essential areas of life not usually taught at university and in those areas that can only be partially taught by parents. Each module is carefully selected for its potential to be applied to real life circumstances.
Equilibria prides itself on an exceptionally high standard of education. Lecturers are handpicked from the best South Africa has to offer. Although each module is underpinned by a sound theoretical base, much emphasis is placed on practical learning experiences. Students are provided with a Study Guide for each module which serves as valuable manuals they can use for the rest of their lives.
Classes are presented in an interactive workshop style with lots of hands-on practical work, excursions, breakaways and fun activities.
The programme concludes with an optional Tour to Europe.

Learn…heal…grow…
School terms:
The school’s terms are based on the North West Province’s school terms. The school is closed during school holidays.
School hours:
Formal classes and practical workshops run every day from Monday to Friday, 9h00 to 12h30.
Afternoon programme:
The afternoon programme is more flexible to allow students to engage in sport and leisure activities of their own choice. The following activities are available to fill students’ afternoon programmes:
-
Exercise: Equilibria students are enrolled in a Health and Fitness Programme that requires them to join an exercise programme at least three times per week. The school places a strong emphasis on cultivating a healthy lifestyle - each student’s personal fitness level is monitored throughout the year. Many students choose to exercise in a gym but they can also opt for other forms of exercise such as jogging, cycling, swimming or group sports.
-
Homework assignments and study: Students are required to complete some theoretical or practical assignments in the afternoons or study for a test.
-
Part-time work: In order to help students cultivate independence, they are encouraged to find part-time work for some afternoons or evenings. Examples of part-time work include au pair work, driving kids to extra-mural activities, waitressing, helping out in guesthouses or bookshops, doing sports training at a primary school or presenting extra classes in art or maths. Equilibria hosts an au pair agency, making it easy for students to find au pair work. For more info click on Part time work.
-
Career research: During the first term, certain afternoons are used for career research, using the school’s Career Mentor software programme.
-
Hobbies: Equilibria places a high priority on self-actualisation and students are encouraged to use afternoons to engage in hobbies or activities that they enjoy such as art, crafts, horse riding, music, making videos, etc. Students will have an opportunity to showcase their hobbies during the Equilibria Talent and Passion Festival later in the year.
-
Organised games: Equilibria students are divided into two teams, competing against each other during some afternoons in fun games such as volleyball, cricket, touch rugby, hockey, chess, card or board games, ten-pin bowling and soccer.
SAQA Accreditation:
Equilibria is currently in the process of aligning most of the modules with SAQA’s (South African Qualifications Authority) Units Standards. Accreditation procedures is a labour intensive and slow process but authorisation should be completed within due time.
